My first ideas for this song came to me in the summer of 2021. Seeing an orange, billionaire fascist posing for photos with the bible while armed agents of the state beat people up should be enough to make most people mad. Mid-global pandemic. Mid-world-destroying climate catastrophe. It felt outrageously cruel.
And then the gaslighting begins before we can even comprehend the nightmare we're experiencing.
Perhaps like many of you, I tried to make sense of it. But I couldn't. So I made this song. Not everything deserves to be rationalized. Your heart can't be everywhere, so whatever you can devote it to, I hope you'll choose love. For yourself, for your friends, and family, and your community. Just because pain is the order of the day, doesn't mean you have to eat theirs.
I put a lot of love into writing and creating this song and I hope you'll feel it as you listen. I'm deep into creating the follow-up album to Run The Wrong Way. I played every instrument on this single, and shot and edited the music video. That's what I've been doing for this whole album (title to be announced soon), and it's been liberating but scary being wholly responsible for every aspect of my creations. I've enjoyed it despite the many failures and challenges, and I'm so grateful to be able to make music everyday and live creatively. I'm glad you're here for the journey.
